Chapter 4 He looks like you. Is he your son?
Author: Mei Lan
Nov 12, 2025
Tang Wei had a blast at the amusement park today. Unlike his usual, painfully precocious act, he was finally just a kid, laughing with the carefree abandon of someone without a single worry in the world. As their day wound down, the three of them returned to the parking lot. Tang Shi stood by the exit, holding Tang Wei as she waited for her brother to bring the car around. Her tall, slender figure caught the eye of a man in a Maserati, who honked twice. “Hey beautiful, need a ride?” Tang Shi flashed a polite smile at the handsome driver, but before she could get a word in, Tang Wei, nestled in her arms, piped up, “No thanks, my mommy already has a ride!” *Damn this little brat!* Jiang Xie was just thinking what a shame it was that such a beautiful woman was already a mother, but when he got a good look at the boy's face, he froze. He leaned right out his window, staring at Tang Wei. “What did you say, kid?” This kid… he was the spitting image of… of Bo Ye! Was he seeing things? How could a kid who looked so much like him just appear out of nowhere? This had to be a love child from Bo Ye’s wilder days! Jiang Xie’s gaze snapped to Tang Shi's face, and in that instant, he finally remembered who she was. Five years ago, before he’d even moved to Haicheng, he’d heard about the scandal. Bo Ye, the city’s crown prince, had turned on his own wife and sent her to prison. And his wife? She was the eldest daughter of Haicheng’s Tang family—the brilliant and proud Tang Shi. Jiang Xie was still lost in thought when Tang Yi’s car pulled up behind him. Seeing him blocking the exit, Tang Yi honked a few times, jolting him back to reality. He shot one last, hard look at Tang Wei. He wasn’t mistaken. Damn, the resemblance was uncanny. He’d bet his life that was Bo Ye’s kid. With that, Jiang Xie surreptitiously snapped a photo before speeding away. He watched in his rearview mirror as Tang Shi got into the car behind him, memorized the license plate, and with one hand, fired off a text to his best friend. [Jiang Xie: Yo, Ye! You got a kid running around out there you don't know about?] [Bo Ye: …Are you drunk?] Jiang Xie didn’t bother replying, simply sending the photo. It was Tang Shi, holding Tang Wei by the side of the road. She was tall and slim, her hair catching the evening breeze as the setting sun shattered into a million pieces at her feet. She was smiling down at the child in her arms, her features still delicate and refined, the very picture of tranquil grace. Seconds later, his phone rang. Jiang Xie answered to the sound of Bo Ye roaring on the other end. “Where did you see her?” “Happy Valley!” Jiang Xie rattled off the license plate number so Bo Ye could run a trace. “They got into this car! Holy shit, man, it hit me like a ton of bricks when I finally recognized her. I’m telling you, that little brat is your spitting image. There’s no way he’s not your son!” On the other end, Bo Ye hung up without another word. He immediately ordered his men to track the plate number, his fingers gripping his phone so tightly his knuckles turned white. It was impossible to tell if it was from excitement or rage, but his expression twisted into something dark and terrifying. *Tang Shi! You had the audacity to give birth to my child in secret!* Five years. For five years, he never knew. He and Tang Shi had a child. All this time, the only child he had ever wanted was the one he was supposed to have with An Mi, but that child was gone forever… along with An Mi herself… When could Tang Shi have had this child…? Was it back then, in prison…? At the thought of prison, Bo Ye’s eyes darkened. Five years… Tang Shi had been locked up for five whole years.
