I nodded with a small smile. "Yes, thank you." Ms. Liu picked up the schedule, handing it to me with a smile. "Do you have any plans for this afternoon, Ms. Tang?" I shook my head, a faint smile on my lips. "Nothing important. Will you still need me for interpretation this afternoon?" She smiled. "No, that won't be necessary. The morning meeting ran long, and it's well past noon. Mr. Lu suggested we all grab lunch together. If you're free, why don't you join us? It's a good chance for everyone to get acquainted, since we'll be working together for the next few days." An invitation phrased like that was impossible to refuse. I nodded and left the office with her. The others had already gone ahead to the restaurant. When Ms. Liu and I arrived, everyone was already seated. After a round of introductions, Ms. Liu gestured toward an empty chair. "Tang, you sit next to Mr. Lu. That way, if he has any questions, he can ask you directly. You’re the expert on the terminology, after all." She gave me a gentle nudge forward. I took the seat next to Lu Yi and greeted him with a polite smile. He was handsome, with a gentle, refined air about him. He smiled back faintly. "Your interpretation skills are impressive, Ms. Tang. Where were you employed before this?" I shook my head. "I had a family matter to attend to, so I've only been freelancing." He gave a knowing smile. From his reaction, I assumed he had forgotten the incident at 'Gui Mei'. After all, the private room had been dim, and given the state I was in, he probably hadn't paid me any mind. To my surprise, as the meal was winding down, he turned to me. "Ms. Tang," he began, "about your father's case—I had someone look into it. It was, in fact, the Lu Corporation's fault. I'm very sorry for the considerable trouble we've caused you." His words caught me completely off guard. To hear that there was finally a resolution for my father, I could only stammer, "Thank you. Thank you so much, really." If the corridor hadn't been so busy, I would have bowed to him in gratitude. He watched me, a gentle smile touching his lips. "There's no need for that," he said, his voice warm. "If anything, I should be thanking you. The Lu family is a complex organization, and it's inevitable that some things get overlooked. Your father's case... well, it's not a small matter." I truly admired Lu Yi's demeanor. He was so approachable and gentle, completely without airs. Talking with him felt effortless, like a breath of fresh air. Simply saying "thank you" felt inadequate. I was just about to ask if I could treat him to a meal to show my gratitude when someone jostled past me. I lost my footing and stumbled forward, right into Lu Yi. His arms shot out instinctively to steady me. "Are you all right?" I shook my head, but as I tried to pull away, a sharp pain shot through my ankle, making me break out in a cold sweat. The heels I’d chosen this morning were too high; I must have twisted it. "Brother!" A soft, graceful voice cut through the air. Both Lu Yi and I froze for a second before turning toward the sound. Lu Ke'er was walking toward us, her arm linked elegantly with Gu Zhizhou's. My eyes instinctively flew to Gu Zhizhou. His expression was dark, his features set with an unreadable chill. I bit back the pain and pushed myself out of Lu Yi's arms. To any observer, the way I'd fallen must have looked like I was deliberately throwing myself at him. Lu Ke'er's eyes widened in mock surprise. "Ms. Tang, it's you!" Her gaze flicked meaningfully between me and Lu Yi. "Brother," she said, a playful lilt in her voice, "what are you doing with Ms. Tang?" Just as I thought. She'd gotten the wrong idea. What truly surprised me, though, was her nonchalance. She knew perfectly well it was me who had answered Gu Zhizhou's phone that day, yet here she was, teasing me as if nothing had ever happened. This woman was something else. Lu Yi's expression softened as he affectionately tapped the tip of her nose. "Don't be ridiculous." Lu Ke'er stuck her tongue out playfully. "What's so ridiculous about it? If you started dating, I'd finally get a sister-in-law. And Mom could finally stop worrying about you." Shaking his head at his sister's antics, Lu Yi turned to Gu Zhizhou. "Here on business?" Gu Zhizhou’s lips tightened. "Yeah." There seemed to be little else to say between the two men. Apparently in a hurry, Gu Zhizhou couldn't drive Lu Ke'er home, so he left her in Lu Yi's care and departed. With my own business concluded and my ankle throbbing, I decided I should probably get it checked at a clinic. Downstairs from the restaurant, Lu Yi and Lu Ke'er drove off just moments after Gu Zhizhou had supposedly left. I stood by the curb, trying to hail a cab, when a black Bentley pulled up beside me. The tinted window slid down, revealing Gu Zhizhou. His gaze was like ice as he looked at me, his voice just as cold. "Get in."
