I opened the door, and Brenda and I stared each other down. Seriously, why did this woman feel like a bad penny that just wouldn’t go away?

First Chapter

After three years of not visiting my parents, I finally managed to snag a train ticket right before Christmas. Once I got on board, I found a kid jumping on my seat with his shoes on. I walked up to him and told him to move, but not a single parent nearby claimed him. Just as I was about to gently lift the kid off, a sharp voice cut through the air. “He’s younger than you, he’s just a child! Are you seriously going to argue with a kid? Have some shame!” I swallowed my anger, taking a deep breath. When the brat’s mom refused to budge, I finally spoke, slowly. “I’m younger than you too. I’m just a kid myself. Why don’t *you* just suck it up?”
