Hearing this, Chloe frowned slightly, then said with concern, "Mr. Sterling, it looks like it's going to rain outside. It's not safe for you to drive yourself. Why don't I have the driver deliver the documents to you?" "Unnecessary. I happen to be going out." "Very well, sir. Then I will wait for you in the lobby." "Mm." The phone hung up, and my heart sank to the absolute bottom. The people around began to praise Chloe for her meticulous thoughtfulness, calling her the perfect helpmate. Chloe looked pleased, as if she were already the mistress of this place. "Of course. When it comes to Mr. Sterling, one must attend to every detail." Immediately, she turned her head and stared viciously at me. "But, for this kind of brazen bitch who doesn't know death when she sees it, we must pull up the roots!" My face was swollen beyond recognition, my clothes were in rags, and beneath me lay a shocking pool of blood. My once slightly protruding abdomen now looked so flat. I knew my child was gone. I stared dead at everyone present, especially Chloe. I wanted to carve this face into my bones; even if I turned into a vengeful ghost, I would make her pay with blood. "What are you looking at?" Chloe was enraged by my gaze and kicked me again in the ribs. "Still defiant?" She raised the letter opener, approaching step by step. "Since you like looking so much, I'll gouge out your eyes first!" "Ah!" The tip of the blade sliced across my forehead, and blood instantly gushed out, blurring my vision. The agonizing pain nearly made me pass out, but I didn't even have the strength to resist anymore. Just then, steady footsteps and Arthur's familiar voice came from outside the door. "Chloe, where are the files?" Chloe's hand trembled, and the letter opener fell to the floor. She exchanged glances with her henchmen, quickly straightened her clothes, squeezed out a perfect smile, and walked out, closing the door behind her. "Mr. Sterling, how did you come down so quickly?" " The files." "Right here. I had them ready for you long ago." There was a brief silence outside the door. I desperately wanted to make a sound, to tell Arthur that I was right here, that our child had been murdered. But the beating I had just endured had caused my throat to swell; I could only emit hoarse whimpers. The few guards left in the room clamped their hands tightly over my mouth, pressing me into the pool of blood. I hated. I hated that Arthur was just one wall away, yet couldn't hear my cry for help. I hated the demon he had hired, who had stolen our only hope. "Mr. Sterling, do you need me to accompany you?" "No." The footsteps seemed about to fade away. Suddenly, Arthur's voice stopped. "By the way, where is that crazy woman you mentioned earlier?" Chloe's voice clearly panicked for a moment, but she quickly composed herself. "Oh, that woman. Security has already chased her away. Rest assured, sir, it was handled very cleanly." "Mm. Strengthen security recently. Don't just let anyone in." With that, he seemed about to leave again. I screamed frantically in my heart, my fingernails digging into the cracks of the floorboards, bloody and raw. Just then, Arthur's voice rang out again, carrying a trace of confusion. "This blueberry pie on the floor... where did it come from?" It was a crumb that had fallen at the door when Chloe had dragged me in earlier. Arthur's voice trembled slightly, revealing a chill of disbelief.
