The next morning, Rong Jin descended the stairs, her stomach in knots, only to find that Fu Xiaoquan was gone. His driver, Ah Sheng, however, was there. "Good morning, Ms. Rong," Ah Sheng greeted her. "Mr. Fu asked me to take you out to buy some clothes before he left." "Alright," Rong Jin nodded, though a question lingered in her mind. If the man had no interest in her physically, why was he being so good to her? After breakfast, Ah Sheng drove Rong Jin to the largest shopping mall in the city center. He told her to go on ahead while he found a place to park. Her grandmother’s death still weighing heavily on her, Rong Jin drifted through the mall in a daze. "Ma'am, these are all from the new collection. Feel free to try anything on." A voice suddenly cut through the haze, pulling Rong Jin back to reality. She realized she had wandered into a luxury boutique and was standing beside a clothing rack. Remembering she was there to buy clothes, she tried to shake off her melancholy. Her eyes landed on a snow-white silk dress, and just as she reached for it, a hand darted out and plucked it from the rack. The woman who took it showed no awareness that she had just snatched something from another person's grasp, instead presenting it to her companion like a prize. "Ning Yun, look at this one! It would be perfect for you!" Rong Jin’s head snapped up. She saw a group of women browsing nearby. At the center of the group stood Ning Yun, dressed in a piece from Dior’s latest collection, a blue Hermès bag dangling from her wrist. She was the very picture of wealth and class. "Hmm, this one isn't bad..." As Ning Yun praised her friend's choice, she seemed to feel an intense gaze upon her. She turned her head and saw Rong Jin standing not far away. Her face was pale, and she looked unwell. After Rong Jin had been bailed out of the police station, Ning Yun had done some digging on the man who'd helped her, finding out he was just someone’s chauffeur. She never thought a mere driver would have the means to let Rong Jin shop at a luxury store. A wave of satisfaction washed over Ning Yun at the sight of Rong Jin’s fall from grace. She smiled and walked over. "Rong Jin. What a coincidence, running into you here." Rong Jin stared at Ning Yun with pure hatred, her nails digging into her palms. She wanted to kill her. But she had nothing now. Just last night, she’d been cruelly rejected by that man. She was in no position to fight Ning Yun. At that thought, the light in Rong Jin’s eyes dimmed, and she turned to leave. But seeing her so broken, Ning Yun had no intention of letting her go, stepping to block her path again. "Rong Jin, I know you're devastated about your grandmother's death. There's five hundred thousand in this card. Consider it a little help, for old times' sake." She produced a bank card and tried to press it into Rong Jin’s hand. "Keep it for yourself!" Rong Jin shoved her hand away. "Rong Jin," one of Ning Yun's friends sneered. "Ning Yun's just worried you won't be able to eat. And you throw it back in her face?" "Everyone knows you were caught shacking up with some strange man in a hotel. What company do you think would ever hire you?" "Oh, she doesn't need a company. With a pretty face like that, she could just go to any club, spread her legs, and rake in the cash." "Haha, you're terrible." Ning Yun let her friends mock Rong Jin, a smirk playing on her lips. Once, she had been a nobody standing in Rong Jin’s shadow, watching others admire her, envious of her family, her everything… And now, their roles were reversed. Ning Yun tried to force the card on Rong Jin again, her voice deceptively gentle. "Stop being so proud, Rong Jin. Just take the card. I'm sure your parents and your grandmother, wherever they are, wouldn't want to see you stoop so low…" Rong Jin had been holding it all in. But seeing Ning Yun's blatant arrogance, hearing her insult her family, she finally snapped. She grabbed Ning Yun by the collar and slapped her, hard, across one cheek and then the other. Each slap landed with ferocious force. Ning Yun’s face burned with a fiery pain. She tried to push Rong Jin away, but Rong Jin seized her hands and slapped her even harder. "Rong Jin, what are you doing!" Her two friends started to rush forward to help. Rong Jin shot them a look so cold it seemed to nail their feet to the floor. This woman was terrifying. "I may have nothing, but my name is still Rong!" Rong Jin spat out between slaps. "And as long as I'm alive, I can bring the Rong family back. But you… all the designer labels in the world can't hide the stench of the countryside you carry!" The commotion in the store quickly drew a crowd of onlookers. Under the gaze of so many, Ning Yun was slapped until her cheeks were red and swollen, completely unable to break free from Rong Jin’s grip. After what felt like three full minutes, Rong Jin finally stopped. She stared coldly at Ning Yun. "Now you’re the one who should be afraid, Ning Yun. I'll get you back for my grandmother's life. Sooner or later." The raw hatred in her eyes sent a shiver down Ning Yun’s spine, and a flicker of fear appeared in her own. Impossible! The Rong family was gone. How could she ever make a comeback? The thought gave Ning Yun a surge of courage. She raised her hand to strike back, but another hand shot out from the side, grabbing her wrist and flinging her away with brutal force. "Ah!" Ning Yun cried out as she crashed to the floor, a sharp pain shooting through her.
