Why! Her parents had treated Song Shi like their own son, giving him almost all their assets, everything except Shen He. How could he be so cruel! Song Shi’s fingers dug into Ning Yun’s chin, his expression cold. “Why did Mr. Yi suddenly switch rooms? And who was that man leaving room 2588 this morning?” “I haven’t found out yet.” Ning Yun’s jaw felt as if it would shatter under his grip. She kissed him placatingly. “It doesn’t matter who it was. You’re divorced now anyway. Rong Jin has nothing but a dying grandmother. She’s tainted goods. Aren’t you satisfied?” The image of the woman kneeling in the rain, a pathetic, sodden mess, flashed through Song Shi’s mind, and an inexplicable irritation gnawed at him. “Satisfied!” he sneered, grabbing Ning Yun by the waist and throwing her onto the bed before pressing his body down on hers. The Rong family deserved their ruin. He was only taking back what was rightfully his! “Ah Shi, slow down…” Ning Yun’s fingers deftly unbuttoned his shirt, her protests punctuated by soft moans. Soon, the room was filled with the sounds of their passion. Rong Jin watched the two figures writhing on the bed, an uncontrollable tremor seizing her body. A chill that sank deep into her bones, as if she'd been plunged into an ice cave. So, this was all Song Shi and Ning Yun’s design. The reporters were probably his doing, too, all to broadcast the scandal of her infidelity across the internet. All to ensure she would leave the marriage with nothing, so he could take everything from her! “Why…” Rong Jin’s voice was laced with anguish. She looked up at the man holding her steady. “Tell me why?” That was the man who had shared her bed. After her parents died, he had been her only pillar of support. And he had played her for a complete fool. Before the man could answer, the hours spent in the drenching rain, combined with the raw images on the LCD screen, overwhelmed Rong Jin, and she collapsed into darkness. Fu Xiaoquan’s eyes darkened. He scooped the woman into his arms, hooking one hand under her knees, and strode out. “Call Tang Yu.” “Yes, sir.” Fu Xiaoquan took Rong Jin to Yanyuan, an exclusive villa district in the heart of the city. As he walked in, a young man in a white lab coat who had been sitting on the sofa shot to his feet. “Quan.” “Hmm.” Fu Xiaoquan carried her upstairs, leaving her in the man’s care to treat her wounds. He waited downstairs, smoking. About half an hour later, Tang Yu came down. “Well, well, Quan. Leave it to you to find the one-in-a-million. If I’m not mistaken, she’s the star of that cheating scandal, isn’t she?” “That would be me, the other man,” Fu Xiaoquan said, glancing at him. “Any other questions?” Understanding dawned on Tang Yu’s face, followed by a playful smirk. “I see, I see. Always more fun when they're taken, am I right?” “I gave her a sedative. It’ll help her get some proper sleep. Once she’s recovered a bit, have her come to the hospital for a full check-up.” With that, Tang Yu grabbed his medical kit and was gone. After seeing Tang Yu out, the driver glanced at his vibrating phone. “Sir, a message from the main family.” The driver stood beside him and reported, “They’re asking if you have returned to the country.” Fu Xiaoquan rose from the sofa. “I’ll drive back myself. Hire a few maids to look after her.” This hothouse flower, he thought, couldn't handle the storm after all. … Rong Jin didn’t know how long she had slept. When she awoke, she found herself in an unfamiliar, European-style room, dressed in silk pajamas. Then the memories flooded back: being caught in the hotel, collapsing in the rain outside the Shen He building, the screen showing Song Shi and Ning Yun wrapped around each other… she remembered everything. It had to be a nightmare. She refused to believe any of it was real. Like a headless chicken, Rong Jin bolted from the room, running frantically through the strange house. When she finally found the staircase, her foot missed a step, and she tumbled forward. A long arm shot out. The man who had been about to ascend the stairs caught her, steadying her in an instant. “Barely awake and already trying to run off?” Rong Jin caught a cool, crisp scent. Her mind cleared, and she realized it was the man from that night—the one who had shown her the truth. “Thank you.” Once she was steady on her feet, Rong Jin bit her lip. “Could I borrow a car?” She had to find Song Shi and demand an explanation. Why did he plot all of this to frame her? And why did he take the last thing her father had left her? The driver standing behind Fu Xiaoquan shook his head. “Miss Rong, haven’t you seen the truth clearly enough…” “Ah Sheng, give her the keys,” Fu Xiaoquan interrupted, his voice devoid of emotion. “She’s already been manipulated out of everything she has. What’s one more time?” The man's naked mockery stung Rong Jin with shame. She snatched the keys and hurried away. Shen He belonged to Song Shi now. He had made it clear she wasn’t allowed inside, so she knew it was pointless to go back. Instead, she drove to Ning Yun’s residence. Upon arriving, Rong Jin got out of the car. She pushed open the gate to the yard, but as she stepped inside, she froze. In the garden, a little boy was playing on a wooden rocking horse.
