The next morning, a gentle rain was falling, blurring the scenery outside the window. Yun An'an sat up, clutching the blanket and rubbing her groggy head, only to find a tall, lean figure standing by her bed. As she looked up, she met his dark eyes, fixed intensely on her, his impossibly handsome face completely unreadable. He stood like a predator lurking in the shadows, exuding a chilling aura. "Huo Siqing?" Startled, Yun An'an's fingers tightened on the edge of the blanket. A knot of anxiety formed in her stomach as she remembered last night. She hadn't been the one to push Yun Xinyue, but would he even believe her if she tried to explain? Was he here to make her pay? "You have five minutes. Get downstairs. I'm taking you to the hospital to get that cut looked at." Huo Siqing’s throat worked, his voice cold and detached. With that, he turned on his heel and left the room. It was the complete opposite of what she'd expected. "You don't have to…" The door clicked shut before Yun An'an could finish. She froze for a moment, a flicker of sweetness blooming in her chest. An involuntary smile touched her lips, crinkling the corners of her eyes. He did care about her, deep down. He just didn't know her well enough—and the misunderstandings ran too deep—for him to ever let it show. If only he knew she was the little girl who'd made a promise with him all those years ago. Would things be different between them then? Yun An'an quickly washed up. As she changed her pad, she noticed she was bleeding less than usual, but she didn't think much of it. Grabbing her bag, she hurried downstairs. When they arrived at the hospital, Huo Siqing had already arranged everything. All Yun An'an had to do was go in for a full physical examination. "They don't need to draw blood, do they?" Yun An'an asked, shrinking back slightly as she eyed the intimidating medical equipment in the exam room. "I feel perfectly healthy. They just need to treat the cut…" "I'll tell them to be gentle. It won't hurt," Huo Siqing said, his brow twitching as he spoke in that same stiff tone. Yun An'an's eyes twinkled, a small, sweet dimple appearing at the corner of her mouth. "Are you trying to comfort me?" She didn't wait for an answer before disappearing into the examination room. Yun An'an had expected a simple cleaning of her cut, not this whole battery of tests. But not wanting to waste this rare display of concern from Huo Siqing, she went along with everything without complaint. When the full battery of tests was finally over, Yun An'an approached Huo Siqing, a hint of confusion on her face. She opened her mouth to ask a question, but he cut her off with a cool tone. "You can go home and wait. I'll let you know when the results are in." "Alright," Yun An'an said, her face breaking into a bright, cheerful smile. The suffocating weight that had crushed her chest all night finally began to lift. She gave Huo Siqing a little wave and then turned the corner, heading for the elevators. The moment Yun An'an was out of sight, two doctors in surgical masks emerged from a door behind Huo Siqing, a medical report in their hands. "Mr. Huo, Yun An'an's heart is a perfect match, and all her other vitals are stable. As long as she consents, we can proceed with the transplant as soon as Miss Yun Xinyue is strong enough for the surgery." Just then, Yun An'an, who had realized right before the elevator doors opened that she'd left her bag behind, was doubling back for it, muttering about her own forgetfulness. The doctor's words hit her like a physical blow. The smile still lingering on her face froze solid, and her eyes widened in utter disbelief. A heart transplant? Yun Xinyue’s condition was so bad she needed a new heart… and *hers*… was a match? So he hadn't brought her here out of concern for her at all. He brought her here to see if her body was healthy enough for her heart to be transplanted into Yun Xinyue?! "Prepare for the surgery. I will make her agree." Huo Siqing’s voice, with his back still to her, was flat, utterly devoid of emotion. He said it as casually as if he were deciding what to eat for lunch. Hearing his words, Yun An'an nearly let out a laugh—a sharp, hysterical sound. Her eyes, clear just moments before, began to burn, reddening as if she might shatter. The air caught in her throat, a suffocating ache that spread through her chest, and a sudden, violent wave of nausea washed over her.
