"Huo Siqing, do you really think I'll agree to this?" Yun An'an blinked, her eyes dry and stinging, and it took a long moment for her to find her voice.
"You can name any condition," Huo Siqing said, his arms crossed over his chest. He looked at her with a weary annoyance, his tone detached. "As long as I can afford it."
To his surprise, Yun An'an let out a laugh, the sound so brittle it brought a sheen of moisture to the corners of her eyes.
She casually tossed the card to the floor and rose to her feet. "You think the title of Mrs. Huo is only worth twenty million dollars?"
"Huo Siqing, I'm not a fool."
With that, she turned and walked into the bathroom, not bothering to look back at his face. She could already imagine how dark it would be.
A divorce was out of the question. Was she supposed to smile and pave the way for someone else's happiness with her own blood, sweat, and tears?
Sorry, but she wasn't some selfless saint, blessed with the kind of heart that sacrifices itself for others.
Huo Siqing's narrow eyes darkened with a cold fury, his thin lips curling into a sneer. The woman was finally showing her true colors.
Did she really think clinging to this title would get her more?
He would make sure she walked away with nothing.

With only one day left before her appointment with the current owner of the small clinic, Yun An'an, after much deliberation, returned to the Yun family home.
As she reached the entrance to the living room, she heard her mother, Shen Qiuyu, on the phone, her voice soothing. "Don't overthink it. The most important thing is to rest and get well. I'll talk to your sister."
"Yes, yes, of course. Mama will never let anyone take what's yours... not even your sister. So you just rest easy, alright?"
Yun An'an’s pupils contracted. That familiar, unsettling feeling of alienation washed over her again.
She waited until Shen Qiuyu hung up before clenching her fists and stepping into the living room.
Shen Qiuyu looked up, a little surprised to see her. "What are you doing back? Did you anger the Huos?"
The smile on Yun An'an's lips froze. She shook her head slightly. "No, that's not it. There's something I need your help with."
"Is there anything the Huos can't handle for you?" Shen Qiuyu frowned, her gaze drifting to the television as she dismissed the topic. "Your sister is back. You know that, right?"
"I know." Yun An'an nodded, sinking into the sofa on the opposite side. Recalling what Yun Xinyue had said the other day, she furrowed her brow.
Did Mom and Dad... did they really know about all this?
She was their daughter, too. Even if they doted on Yun Xinyue, they wouldn't treat her like that... would they?
But Shen Qiuyu’s next words shattered her last shred of hope.
"An'an, Xinyue has been frail since she was a child. She suffered so much even before she was born. As her older sister, you should be more considerate of her. Don't fight with her over things, and don't try to take what's hers. Do you understand?"
Ever since her grandfather had died and she had been brought back to this house, these were the words she had heard most often—phrased as advice but delivered as a warning.
If she failed to comply, her parents would threaten to send her back to the countryside, to become an unwanted, stray child again.
She was terrified of being abandoned, so she never dared to disobey them.
"You know as well as I do that Mr. Huo and Xinyue are in love. Xinyue's poor health was the only reason she had to go abroad to recover. She never intended to run away from the marriage. You were just a substitute, and now that she's back, it's time to return what belongs to her. I know you're a sensible girl, An'an. You know what the right thing to do is, don't you?"
Shen Qiuyu’s tone was now patient and earnest, a stark contrast to the way she had threatened and cajoled Yun An'an six months ago, using Grandfather Yun’s shares to keep her quiet about Yun Xinyue running away.
Yun An'an kept her head bowed, her small hands clenched tightly in her lap. "What are you trying to say?"
"Once Xinyue is well, you will be the one to ask for the divorce. It will save you some face and ensure there's no scandal," Shen Qiuyu said, her eyes flicking sideways, her tone casual, almost bored.
