A wry smile touched Yun An'an’s lips as she rose to get ready. Bag in hand, she headed downstairs. It was only while packing the night before that she’d realized how pitifully few of her own things filled the room. What remained wasn't hers at all. Yun An'an settled into the car. Just as it pulled out of the main gate, she saw Huo Siqing returning from his morning run, dressed in black athletic wear. A sheen of sweat coated his handsome, sculpted features, which only enhanced his magnetic charm. Her gaze followed him as they passed. “Huo Siqing,” she said, her voice soft, “let’s get a divorce. That agreement you drew up six months ago? I’ll sign it.” She had discovered the papers on their wedding night but had chosen not to say anything, unwilling to provoke the ugliness of a direct confrontation. Now, with a child on the way, she had to seriously consider her future. He didn't love her. He was even willing to take her heart for Yun Xinyue. She couldn't sacrifice herself for the sake of their love. The car wasn’t moving fast, but by the time Yun An'an finished speaking and Huo Siqing turned to look, all he could see was the back of the car disappearing down the road. Her words replayed in his mind. His brow furrowed, and then his lips twisted into a scornful smirk. Did she really think she was the one in control of this divorce? - After dropping her things off at the Shuixie Pavilion, Yun An'an took a cab to a nearby hospital for a full check-up. While waiting for the results, she received several calls from potential patients who had seen the sign for her small clinic—the “Yun Medical Clinic” she had deliberately mentioned at the Jinbi Club. She wasn't surprised. She simply told them her opening date and asked them to wait. Half an hour later, the results were ready. “Ms. Yun, are you planning on keeping this child, or not?” the female doctor asked, frowning at the report in her hands as she peered over her glasses. “Of course, I’m keeping it,” Yun An'an said, her voice firm, though her fingers twisted together nervously. The doctor glanced at her before continuing. “Then you need to stop taking oral contraceptives immediately. Your body has sustained significant damage, and the fetus is in a very unstable condition. If you aren’t more careful, you’re at high risk of a miscarriage.” Yun An'an’s mind went blank, as if she hadn’t understood. “Doctor, what did you say? What… contraceptives? I’ve never taken any pills.” The contraceptive shot wouldn't be harmful; she wouldn't have used it otherwise. And pills were out of the question. She had never taken any. “Our tests show high levels of oral contraceptives in your system, and it looks like it’s been going on for about six months. In the long run, this could lead to infertility. How could you not know?” The doctor shook her head. “Young people these days are so careless with what they put in their bodies.” The sun was shining brightly outside, a rare, perfect day. But Yun An'an felt as if she’d been plunged into an ice cellar, a deep, bone-piercing cold spreading through her. She’d always been healthy, recovering from illnesses quickly without medication. There was no way she could have accidentally ingested birth control pills. Unless… unless someone had been slipping them into her food, something she trusted, something she would never have suspected. She didn’t know how she managed to listen to the rest of the doctor’s instructions, or how she even made it out of the hospital with the prescription. It felt as if she were trapped in a suffocating cocoon, unable to breathe. Who would do this to her? Who could hate her so much? Lost in her turmoil, Yun An'an didn't notice Yun Xinyue, who happened to be at the hospital, spot her and follow her from a distance. As soon as Yun An'an was gone, Yun Xinyue wheeled herself into the same examination room. “Doctor,” she began, her voice dripping with concern, “I’m the sister of the patient who was just here. My sister has always been so proud, she never tells the family when something is wrong. We're terribly worried. Could you please tell me… what’s wrong with her?”
