“If we’d told Mommy ahead of time, we wouldn’t get to meet Daddy!” Zhanzhan said, patting his sister’s little head with the air of a tiny adult. “Duoduo, don’t you want to meet our daddy?”
“Of course I do…”
“Then listen to me,” Zhanzhan declared. “We’re not just going to meet Daddy, we’re going to get him and Mommy back together! That way, Mommy won’t have to work so hard, and we can have a whole family, just like other kids!”
“Okay, okay.” Duoduo nodded obediently. “I’ll do whatever you say, brother!”
“Good girl, Duoduo.”
In the meticulously arranged courtyard not far away, Li Mi hummed a soft tune as she turned herbs to dry in the sun. She had no idea that the man she'd spent seven years carefully avoiding was about to be led right to her door by her two little schemers!
Why was she hiding? Because the two children were far too clever, and she was terrified Jing Ting would try to take them from her.
Following the navigation, the Rolls-Royce slowed as it entered the village. Vast fields of sunflowers flooded their vision, growing with a wild, untamed beauty.
Red, yellow, white… a kaleidoscope of colors.
The stalks were heavy with blossoms, and when a warm breeze swept through, the sight was breathtaking.
Jing Ting sat in the back of the Rolls-Royce with the unshakable calm of an emperor, his deep eyes betraying no emotion.
Glancing out the window, Mo Fan was struck by the visual power of the sea of flowers.
The sky here was a brilliant blue, dotted with a few white clouds that looked like giant tufts of cotton candy.
“Brother, do we go out now?” Duoduo whispered.
Zhanzhan watched as the Rolls-Royce slowed, turned, and pulled into their courtyard. “Not yet.”
Behind a large water urn nearby, the two little traitors’ hearts pounded in their chests as they watched the car.
The car doors opened, and several bodyguards in black suits stepped out first.
Then, under the children’s eager gaze, their daddy finally made his grand entrance—
Beside the luxury car, bathed in sunlight, Jing Ting looked exactly as he did on TV. His suit was perfectly tailored to his flawless frame, and his refined features held a hint of cold severity.
So cool!
“Whoa!” Zhanzhan couldn't help but cover his mouth, his hushed gasp that of a star-struck fan. “Daddy is so handsome!”
Duoduo was also mesmerized, proving that crushes know no age. “Why would Mommy not want a daddy who looks like that?”
Mo Fan closed the car door, and the men slowly surveyed the courtyard.
It wasn't large, but it was exquisitely arranged in the style of a traditional Chinese garden.
Two rows of bamboo houses stood at a right angle to each other. In front of them, several large urns served as planters for lotus flowers, their water teeming with vibrant red carp.
A single, stunning cherry tree in full bloom was the centerpiece, while lush green money plants filled every corner, adding a touch of life to the unusual early summer scene.
Mo Fan held up a tablet for Jing Ting. “This is the place.” The GPS location on the screen matched their position perfectly.
Just then, the closed bamboo door creaked open.
Li Mi stepped out, carrying a basin of freshly washed black nightshade. When she saw the scene in her courtyard, the smile vanished from her face, and her heart gave a violent thump.
Her eyes met Jing Ting’s. A jolt, like an electric shock, shot through her, and her eyes widened in disbelief.
For Jing Ting, fragments of a memory from seven years ago surfaced, and his brow furrowed unconsciously.
Li Mi quickly snapped back to reality, trying to mask her inner turmoil.
But the man’s cold gaze was locked on her, his pupils reflecting her image, as pure and untouched as she had been then. It all felt surreal.
Being stared at with such intensity, Li Mi’s heart hammered so hard she felt bruised from the inside.
She fought to steady herself. Her delicate features were as flawless as porcelain, and her waist-length hair shone like black satin. She wore a simple, knee-length beige dress, radiating an aura of pure innocence.
She instinctively turned her face away slightly, but Jing Ting recognized her in an instant.
The woman hadn’t changed at all, not even her figure.
He remembered that night with startling clarity—they’d been together until six in the morning, and just before he left, the dawn light had illuminated her face.
That exquisite, innocent face was so uniquely natural he hadn't forgotten it in seven years.
Panic seized Li Mi. Was he here to take the children?
She moved, setting the basin of herbs down under the cherry tree. She had to run. They looked prepared.
Jing Ting was puzzled. She had vanished seven years ago with the ring, and now she had lured him here. What was she planning?
In the tense silence, Mo Fan couldn't decipher his boss's mood.
The man was famous for his indifference to women, so why did he seem so captivated by this one?
As Jing Ting stared at her, a faint ripple did disturb the calm of his heart, but his gaze remained icy. After all, this little joke of hers had gone too far. Project Blue Sky was the lifeblood of the Jing Corporation.
Li Mi didn’t dare look at him. Steeling herself, she bit her lip and made a break for it.
In a single stride, Jing Ting closed the distance. His hand shot out, seizing her wrist and pulling sharply. Li Mi spun around and crashed into his hard chest.
A delicate, pleasant fragrance, clean and comforting, wafted from her.
She looked up, forcing her most earnest smile. “Sir, you have the wrong person.”
