Duoduo fell silent, her large, dark eyes, like currants, fixed on her daddy. *He was actually quite handsome when he wasn't being forceful.* And suddenly, she thought he and Mommy made a perfect match.
Jing Ting quickly scanned the tablet. Sure enough, there were traces of the Blue Sky Project's deletion, and the device was still intentionally broadcasting its location.
And somehow, when Jing Ting met the boy's gaze, he instinctively found himself believing him. Eyes like that didn't lie.
He'd always been a good judge of character.
At thirty-eight, gazing at the two children, a complex wave of emotion washed over him.
Jing Ting handed the tablet back to the boy, watching as he took it with both hands and tucked it into the little yellow duck backpack he wore.
He crouched, lifted the boy, and passed him into Mo Fan’s arms.
Then he scooped up the little girl, his gaze settling on Li Mi with profound meaning. “Since they’re my children, then I’ll grant their wish. I’ll take responsibility for the next seven years.”
At his cue, a bodyguard instantly opened the car door. Mo Fan slipped inside with the boy.
Before Li Mi could even react, Jing Ting had already bundled Duoduo into the car with astonishing speed.
“Hey! What right do you have to take my children?!” Li Mi lunged forward instinctively, but a bodyguard intercepted her.
A scuffle broke out between them, sending Wu Jun into a panic. He wanted to intervene but was terrified of getting caught in the middle.
The bodyguard moved with agility, purely on the defensive; after all, she was the children’s mother, and he wouldn’t dare lay a hand on her.
“Are you out of your mind, Jing Ting?! What do my children have to do with you?” Seeing him get into the car, she completely lost it. “You’re just taking them? Just like that? Aren’t you even worried they might be lying? You’re not going to run a test first?”
In truth, she was skilled in self-defense, a skill she had deliberately acquired after the first time she was taken, precisely to prevent it from ever happening again.
“Mommy! Mommy!” Duoduo’s little head popped out of the car window, tears streaming down her face. “Don’t you dare hurt my mommy!”
Zhanzhan reached over and pulled his sister into a hug. “Don’t worry, they’re the only ones who’ll get hurt. Mommy will be fine.”
“*Sob*…”
“Stop crying. It’s not like Mommy can run away,” Zhanzhan whispered in Duoduo’s ear. “First, we need to win Dad over.”
The engine roared to life. The bodyguard leaped into the moving vehicle, slammed the door shut, and the Lamborghini sped away, leaving Li Mi in its dust.
“Damn it!” Li Mi sprinted a few steps after it, screaming at the retreating Lamborghini. “Kidnapping children doesn’t make you strong! Face me one-on-one if you have any guts! What kind of man needs bodyguards to do his dirty work?”
The secret she had guarded for seven years was out. Just like that.
Her brilliant son and her precious daughter… stolen away by Jing Ting.
She sank to the ground in despair, wrapping her arms around her knees, a hollow ache spreading through her chest. “How could he? What gives him the right?”
“Boss…” Wu Jun bent down to help her up. “Don’t worry. Zhanzhan and Duoduo can take care of themselves. They’ll probably find their own way back tomorrow.”
But Li Mi knew better. The quiet days were over.
“You know how kids are, curious about everything,” Wu Jun offered, trying awkwardly to console her. “Once the novelty wears off, they’ll realize they miss their mommy most of all.”
But Li Mi just wanted to break down and cry. Duoduo was so clingy, so timid. She’d already been crying from fear. What if she was terrified? What if this traumatized her?
“Boss…”
“Oh, just stop trying to make me feel better!” Li Mi pushed herself to her feet and stalked toward the house. “Zhanzhan was completely out of line! He should have at least talked to me first! Hacking the man’s computer… he basically led the wolf right to our door!”
“It’s not like he never brought it up. You’re the one who always said no…”
“You—!”
“S-sorry! Boss, that’s not what I meant!”
Wu Jun offered a weak smile. He actually thought this might be a good thing. The man was *the* Mr. Jing, after all. How many people dreamed of having a father that rich?
Li Mi stormed into her room. “Don’t anybody bother me!” The door slammed shut with a resounding crack.
Inside the speeding Lamborghini, Jing Ting studied the two children, his brow furrowed slightly. In a low, magnetic voice, he asked, “What’s your mother’s name?”
The question made Mo Fan nearly choke. *He had children with this woman and didn’t even know her name?*
