After three years of marriage to Huo Yunting, Chi Muzhen had believed she could finally thaw his heart. But that hope shattered the day she saw the photos—of him in bed with her own twin sister. With that, the last of her hope died. She decided to let him go, and to set herself free. But when she presented him with the divorce papers, he ripped them to shreds before her very eyes, pinning her against the wall. “Chi Muzhen, you want a divorce? Over my dead body!” Meeting his furious gaze, her own eyes were a mask of calm indifference. “Huo Yunting, you have to make a choice. Me, or Chi Xuan.” In the end, Huo Yunting chose Chi Xuan. Yet it was only when he had truly lost Chi Muzhen that he understood he had been in love with her all along...

First Chapter

Chi Muzhen was in the middle of choosing a third-anniversary gift for Huo Yunting when the message from Chi Xuan came through. A dozen suggestive photos abruptly filled the screen. Chi Muzhen froze, the color draining from her face. In every single photo were Huo Yunting and her twin sister, Chi Xuan. There they were, embracing in one photo, heads bowed in a kiss in another… but the one constant was the look in Huo Yunting's eyes as he gazed at Chi Xuan—a look of pure adoration. In three years of quiet devotion by his side, he had never once looked at her that way. “Look familiar?” Chi Muzhen rubbed her throbbing temples. The setting in the photos seemed vaguely familiar, but before she could place it, Chi Xuan’s next message popped up. “That’s your marital home, sis. Don’t you recognize it?” “Oh… I almost forgot. Besides your wedding night, has Yunting ever let you set foot in there again? Do you know why?” “Because Yunting prepared this home for *me*. If Grandma Huo hadn’t taken matters into her own hands on your wedding day, you would have never had the chance to step inside in your entire life!” Every one of Chi Xuan's words was a needle piercing Chi Muzhen's heart. Her hands began to tremble. She gripped her phone, her fingers slowly typing out a reply. “Chi Xuan, stop sending me these. You and Huo Yunting are in the past.” “Heh, you really think we’re in the past?” “I’ve been back in the country for two months. Has Yunting come home at all during that time?” “Every day he didn’t come home, he came to this house after work to see me. Do you know what he says about you in bed? He says you're hopelessly boring, no different from an inflatable doll.” “To be such a failure as a woman... if I were you, I’d be so ashamed I’d want to disappear.” “While Yunting still has some lingering affection for you, I’d advise you to walk away. Otherwise, you’ll be the one who ends up humiliated.” ... Chi Muzhen didn't know how she made it home. It wasn’t until the click of the fingerprint lock echoed behind her that she snapped back to reality. When Huo Yunting opened the door, the first thing he saw was Chi Muzhen sitting on the floor of the entranceway. His brow furrowed instantly, his eyes filled with displeasure. “What are you doing sitting there?” Chi Muzhen looked up at him. His handsome face came into view, still capable of making her heart skip a beat. She searched his eyes for even a trace of affection, but found nothing but impatience and annoyance. He had looked at her this way for three years, but now, knowing he could look at another woman with such tenderness, her heart felt as if it had been slashed open, the pain unbearable. She slowly got to her feet, her gaze fixed on him. “Why did you hide the fact that Chi Xuan was back?” A flicker of surprise crossed Huo Yunting’s face, quickly replaced by a detached tone. “You and Xuan Xuan don’t get along. There was no need to tell you.” Chi Muzhen let out a small, bitter laugh. No need, or was he just afraid of her finding out about his affair? She closed her eyes for a moment, then spoke, her words deliberate and clear. “Huo Yunting, if you had any real respect for me as your wife, you wouldn’t be messing around with Chi Xuan in our marital home!” Huo Yunting’s expression shifted. “How did you know?” “How did I know? You should ask Chi Xuan that! I’d also like to know how a homewrecker like her had the nerve to send me those photos just to torment me!” “Chi Muzhen!” Rage contorted Huo Yunting’s features, his cold glare landing on her like a sharpened arrow. In his mind, Chi Xuan was innocent and would never do anything to hurt someone, let alone provoke Chi Muzhen. “There’s nothing sordid going on between Xuan Xuan and me like you’re suggesting. She’s just staying there. And there’s no way she would send you any photos!” His look stung her, and her eyes instantly turned red. “Staying there? Do you take me for a fool? And you say there’s no way she’d send me photos—so you’re saying I’m making it all up?” “You might not do it to others, but you’ve always disliked Xuan Xuan. This isn’t the first time you’ve done something like this.” Chi Muzhen pressed her lips together, a wave of bitter amusement washing over her. He hadn’t even bothered to ask for the details before instinctively taking Chi Xuan’s side. No wonder Chi Xuan had been so bold. She must have known all along that Huo Yunting would stand by her. She closed her eyes, exhausted. “Think what you want,” she said flatly. “Fine. I made it all up.” A flash of anger crossed his eyes. “Xuan Xuan doesn’t owe you anything,” he said coldly. “Don’t ever let me hear you speak like that again!” He was already this protective, and she hadn’t even done anything to Chi Xuan. If she actually did, he probably wouldn’t let her off. Chi Muzhen laughed at herself. “Huo Yunting, in these three years of marriage, have you ever liked me? Even a little?” His icy gaze settled on her face. “Since I married you, I will take care of you for the rest of your life.” He wouldn’t answer. Which meant he never had. Chi Muzhen gave a slight, hollow laugh and turned her head, not wanting him to see the tears on her face. “Let’s get a divorce,” she said, her heart completely numb. She had held on for three years, believing her devotion would eventually win his love, but it had all been a lie she told herself. It was time to wake up. Huo Yunting frowned, a flash of irritation in his eyes. “Chi Muzhen, don’t be ridiculous.” She couldn’t believe it. In his eyes, this was just her acting out. She raised the back of her hand to wipe away her tears and looked at him, her expression serious. “I’m not being ridiculous. I’ll have my lawyer draft the divorce agreement. I don’t want a single penny of your assets.” She had brought nothing with her when she married him, and now that they were divorcing, she didn’t want him thinking she was after his money. The moment the words left her mouth, Huo Yunting’s face turned grim, an arctic chill radiating from him. “Chi Muzhen, I’m busy. I don’t have time to argue with you. I’m going to pretend I didn’t hear what you just said. We’ll talk when you’ve calmed down.” With that, Huo Yunting turned and left without a backward glance. It was always like this when they fought. He would just give her the cold shoulder until she was the one to give in. Only now that she had decided to let go did Chi Muzhen realize how she had debased herself, so much so that he wouldn't even deign to comfort her. But that was over now. The next morning, Chi Muzhen contacted a lawyer to draw up the divorce papers. As he printed them, the lawyer couldn’t help but offer some advice. “Mrs. Huo, the Huo Corporation is currently valued in the hundreds of billions. You’ve been with Mr. Huo for three years, and you put up with a secret marriage. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to ask for a few hundred million.” Chi Muzhen gave a wry smile. “That won’t be necessary. I just want this divorce to be over with as quickly as possible.” Seeing her resolve, the lawyer said no more and left after handing her the documents. Flipping to the last page, Chi Muzhen signed her name without a moment’s hesitation. She slipped the ring from her finger, placed it on top of the agreement, and went upstairs to pack. Less than an hour later, she was done. She didn’t own much, and she wouldn’t be taking anything Huo Yunting had bought for her, so everything fit into a single suitcase. She took one last look at the villa she had lived in for three years, her eyes holding no trace of sentimentality. It didn't matter how hard you tried to hold on to something that was never yours to begin with. It had taken her three years to learn that lesson. But it wasn't too late. She turned and walked out of the villa. A red Lamborghini was already parked at the gate. Seeing her, the driver honked once. After placing her suitcase in the car, Chi Muzhen opened the passenger door and slid inside. In the driver’s seat sat a woman with fair skin and a stunning figure. She wore a pair of large sunglasses that hid most of her face, making her features seem even more delicate and small. As Chi Muzhen settled in, Shen Tian raised an eyebrow. “So, you’re really doing this?”
