Huo Yunting hesitated for a moment, then spoke after a few seconds of silence. "Right. Give her a call."
They hadn't been in Seattle long for work when Chi Xuan followed them. Ostensibly, she was there for a vacation, but everyone at the Lu Corporation’s branch office knew she had come chasing after Huo Yunting.
"Understood."
Ke Ning quickly booked the flights, and after picking up Chi Xuan, the group headed for the airport.
After a flight of over a dozen hours, the plane finally landed smoothly at Rongcheng Airport.
During those long hours, Ke Ning witnessed the meticulous care Huo Yunting lavished on Chi Xuan.
Once off the plane, they made their way toward the airport exit.
In the crowds, Huo Yunting would instinctively shield Chi Xuan.
Chi Muzhen used to accompany Huo Yunting on business trips, but it had always been her taking care of him, and his attitude toward her had always been cold.
Compared to Chi Muzhen, Chi Xuan seemed more like his wife.
…
Meanwhile, Chi Muzhen emerged from another terminal.
She wore a long, V-neck slip dress and sunglasses, a faint smile playing on her lips. She looked to be in high spirits.
Shen Tian was already waiting at the entrance, and her face lit up the moment she saw Chi Muzhen, waving enthusiastically.
At the sight of her friend, Chi Muzhen’s smile widened, and she quickened her pace, pushing her luggage cart toward her.
But just as she was about to reach her, she noticed the smile falter from Shen Tian’s face as her friend stared at something behind her.
A flicker of surprise in her eyes, Chi Muzhen turned to see Huo Yunting and Chi Xuan walking side-by-side toward the exit.
Her hand tightened instinctively on the handle of her cart, her own expression becoming unreadable.
Before Shen Tian could speak, Chi Muzhen turned back to her and said, "Let's go."
Seeing her friend so composed, her eyes devoid of any emotion, Shen Tian couldn’t be sure if she was truly over Huo Yunting. She quickly reached out and took the luggage from her.
"You bought a lot on your trip. This is heavy."
"They're all gifts for you guys."
The two chatted as they walked out, oblivious to a sharp gaze that had fixed on them—or more precisely, on Chi Muzhen alone.
Sensing his shift in mood, Chi Xuan gently tugged on his sleeve.
"Yunting, what's wrong?"
Huo Yunting tore his gaze away, shaking his head. "It's nothing."
Was he imagining things?
That woman had reminded him of Chi Muzhen. But Chi Muzhen would never wear a slip dress; her clothes had always been modest, exuding a gentle aura.
He frowned, turning to Ke Ning with displeasure. "Have you found Chi Muzhen's whereabouts yet?"
Ke Ning didn't dare meet his gaze, lowering his head. "Not yet... but I guarantee we'll have Miss Chi's exact location by the end of the day!"
The air around Huo Yunting turned frigid. "You take Xuanxuan home," he said coldly. "I'm going back to the villa."
By the time he reached the villa, it was after seven in the evening.
The house was pitch black. She obviously wasn't home.
As he opened the door, the smell of dust hit him, and he frowned involuntarily.
Before, the first thing he saw upon returning was always Chi Muzhen's smiling face. Now, only a dark, empty house greeted him.
He switched on the living room lights. A layer of dust covered everything. It was just as the property management had said—she hadn't been back at all.
Chi Muzhen had gotten angry with him before, but she had never stayed away for an entire month.
A vague sense of unease settled in his chest, a feeling that peaked when he saw the divorce papers and the ring sitting on the living room table.
Untouched for a month, the papers were already coated in a fine layer of dust.
Huo Yunting snatched them up and flipped to the last page. Just as he expected, Chi Muzhen’s signature was already there.
A rage unlike any he had ever known surged through him. His grip on the papers tightened, his face contorting into a dark mask.
*She actually dared.*
Just as his fury reached its boiling point, his phone rang.
"Mr. Huo, we've found Miss Chi's whereabouts... She's in the northern district..."
Sensing Ke Ning's hesitation, Huo Yunting's voice dropped to a frigid tone. "Be specific. Where in the northern district?"
"In a villa... The owner of the villa is Shi Yiheng, the newly crowned Best Actor."
