She threw the car door open and stormed out, turning on her heel and walking back the way they had come. The black Maybach lingered for a moment before finally driving off in the opposite direction. Inside the car, Huo Yunting watched Chi Muzhen’s shrinking figure in the rearview mirror, a wave of irritation washing over him. He couldn’t understand why Chi Muzhen, always so gentle, was being so stubborn this time. He'd already humbled himself enough to come and find her, and she still wanted a divorce? But seeing Chi Xuan was the priority now. He'd find time to talk things through with Chi Muzhen later. Chi Muzhen had only walked for a hundred yards or so when her phone rang. It was Shi Yiheng. “Muzhen, where are you right now?” Hearing the anxiety in his voice, a flicker of warmth stirred in her chest. “I’m on the mountainside, on my way back.” “And Mr. Huo?” Her eyes were void of emotion, her expression calm as she said, “He left.” “So he just left you—a woman alone—on the side of a mountain in the middle of the night?! I'm coming to get you right now. Give me five minutes!” He hung up before Chi Muzhen could refuse. Chi Muzhen put her phone away and waited by the side of the road for him. When Shi Yiheng arrived, he found her aimlessly kicking at loose stones. The sound of an engine made her look up, and she saw his car pull to a stop in front of her. He pushed his door open and got out, visibly relieved to see she was unharmed. He hurried over and opened the passenger door for her. “Muzhen, get in.” His thoughtfulness made her smile. “No wonder so many girls are always saying they want to be your girlfriend,” she teased. “You’re such a gentleman.” A smile touched Shi Yiheng’s lips. “What about you? Do you think I’d make a good boyfriend?” Seeing his casual expression, she knew he was joking and played along, nodding. “Definitely. You’d be a perfect boyfriend.” A flicker of disappointment crossed Shi Yiheng’s eyes, but he kept the smile on his face. “Too bad the person I like doesn’t like me back.” Chi Muzhen patted his shoulder gently. “What a coincidence. The person I like doesn’t like me either.” Shi Yiheng couldn't help but shake his head with a laugh. “That’s a terrible way to comfort someone. Now I just feel worse.” “Alright, let’s get going. I have to start work tomorrow.” Shi Yiheng raised an eyebrow. “Coming back to be my agent?” “Not exactly. Besides, you already have an agent. Even if I came back to manage someone, it couldn’t be you.” Shi Yiheng smiled but said nothing more. Back at the villa, the coffee had long gone cold. Chi Muzhen had lost the desire to drink it anyway. After bidding Shi Yiheng goodnight, she went straight to her room. The next morning, Chi Muzhen got up, dressed, and went downstairs to find Shen Tian already waiting for her in the living room. She quickened her pace. “Ms. Shen, would you consider letting me rest for one more day?” Shen Tian let out a cold laugh, looking like a demon ready to devour her, and shoved a stack of files into Chi Muzhen’s arms. “You’ve rested for three years, and you want more? Read through these on the way to the office. We have a tough battle to fight today!” Chi Muzhen stared down at the files in her arms, momentarily speechless. “Why such a heavy workload on the first day?” “Don’t get me started. In the three years you were gone, those old geezers nearly tore MY apart. They stuffed the company with all their relatives—good-for-nothing parasites who do nothing but collect a paycheck. If you hadn't come back, the company would have gone under sooner or later!” Chi Muzhen was silent. On the way to the office, Shen Tian couldn’t resist gossiping. “By the way, when I went to your place this morning, I saw the new Best Actor, Shi Yiheng. You just divorced Huo Yunting, and you’re already keeping an A-list actor as your boy toy?” Chi Muzhen’s gaze shifted from the files to her friend’s face. “First,” she said seriously, “he and I are just friends. Second, Huo Yunting and I aren’t officially divorced yet, so he’s not my ex-husband.” Shen Tian’s eyes widened in shock. “So you started keeping a boy toy *before* you even divorced Huo Yunting?! Now *that’s* scandalous!” Chi Muzhen sighed. “…Did you fail reading comprehension?” Shen Tian lifted her chin. “Of course not. I was top of my class.” “Was it a class of one?” “Chi Muzhen, you should just shut up!” Chi Muzhen didn’t say another word, returning her attention to the documents. She had only been reading for a few moments when her phone rang. Seeing the unfamiliar number, she felt a flicker of confusion. The moment she answered, Huo Yunting's voice, seething with anger, came through the line. “Chi Muzhen, take my number off your blocklist!” Chi Muzhen ended the call, powered off her phone, and tossed it to Shen Tian. “Get me a new SIM card. Cancel this one.” Remembering Chi Muzhen’s earlier jibe, Shen Tian replied, her voice dripping with sarcasm, “I’m not your secretary! Go ask your secretary!” Chi Muzhen closed the file and raised an eyebrow. “Fine. From the looks of it, MY is beyond saving anyway. Maybe I’ll just file for bankruptcy.” “No, no, no! My dearest queen, I was wrong! I’ll get it done right now, okay?!” Seeing her suddenly eager-to-please expression, Chi Muzhen couldn't help but smirk. “I was just kidding. Don’t take it so seriously.” Shen Tian was speechless. Upon arriving at MY, the first thing Chi Muzhen did was call a shareholders’ meeting. An hour later, the usually domineering shareholders filed out, their faces ashen, their eyes filled with fury. Soon, only Shen Tian and Chi Muzhen were left in the conference room. Shen Tian gave Chi Muzhen a thumbs-up, her face a mask of admiration. “Ms. Chi, you’re as sharp as ever! I was floored watching you shut down those old geezers. I’ve never seen them so thoroughly defeated.” Chi Muzhen gave her a cool, impassive glance. “Immediately compile a list of all the people the other shareholders have placed within MY. We start layoffs tomorrow.” Shen Tian’s eyes widened in shock. “So soon?! Those old fossils just took a beating from you today; they’re still fuming. If you go after their people now, you’ll definitely stir up trouble.” “If anyone has a problem, they can come to my office and tell me themselves.” With that, Chi Muzhen stood up and left. She now had a general idea of MY’s problems. If she didn’t solve them quickly, the company probably wouldn’t survive to see the next year. Returning to the office she hadn't seen in three years, Chi Muzhen had little time for sentimentality. She dived straight into work. In less than an hour, news of the return of MY’s founder had spread throughout Rongcheng’s entire business circle. However, Chi Muzhen had never shown her face publicly before, making her a mysterious figure to the outside world. Everyone was speculating whether her return was a last-ditch effort to pull MY back from the brink of bankruptcy. In the CEO’s office at Huo Corporation. Huo Yunting was still trying to contact Chi Muzhen, but her phone was still off. His patience was wearing thin. When Ke Ning entered the office, he felt like he’d stepped into a freezer. Even his footsteps became unconsciously lighter. “Mr. Huo, the plan to acquire MY might have to be put on hold. We’ve heard that MY’s founder returned today.” Huo Yunting frowned, his mind elsewhere. “Continue with the acquisition. Add another hundred million to the original offer.” “MY’s founder was a force to be reckoned with when she first established the company, and then she retreated from the scene at the height of her success. Her return now is likely to save MY. From an acquisition standpoint, MY isn't the best choice.” Huo Yunting’s expression was cold. “Continue the acquisition. If the money’s not enough, add more. I don’t want to say it a third time. Also, send someone to watch Shi Yiheng’s villa. Notify me the moment Chi Muzhen appears.” “Yes, Mr. Huo.” Ke Ning saw Huo Yunting’s frustration, and a strange feeling crept over him. It was obvious Huo Yunting loved Chi Xuan, so why wouldn’t he divorce Chi Muzhen and marry her? But that was Huo Yunting’s private business. He couldn’t interfere; he could only follow orders. “By the way, Mr. Huo, the ‘Angel’s Tear’ you acquired at the auction in Seattle has arrived. Would you like to deliver it to Ms. Chi personally?” Angel’s Tear was a necklace featuring a single, teardrop-shaped blue gemstone as its centerpiece, surrounded by thousands of glittering diamonds. It was so beautiful it was hard to look away. The moment he first saw it, Huo Yunting had thought it was perfect for Chi Muzhen. He had bought it on the spot, intending to give it to her as a third-anniversary gift. But after their fight, the matter had slipped his mind. He pressed his lips together, his expression indifferent. “Give it to me. I’ll deliver it myself.” After Ke Ning brought the necklace to the office and left, Huo Yunting picked up a document but couldn’t focus on a single word. His mind was filled with the image of Chi Muzhen’s resolute expression as she walked away last night. He shut the file in frustration. This feeling of losing control was unnerving. Just as he was about to stand up for some air, his phone suddenly rang.
