Shock flashed in Shi Yiheng’s eyes. His grip on the doorknob tightened, his knuckles turning a stark white. He stood rooted to the spot, as if struck by lightning.
“Shi Yiheng, why are you just standing in the doorway—”
Before she could finish, Chi Muchen saw Huo Yunting standing opposite him.
Her brow furrowed. “What are you doing here?”
Huo Yunting scoffed, his gaze cutting into her like shards of ice. “Did I come at a bad time? Am I interrupting something?”
Chi Muchen’s hand tightened on the towel in her hair, but her expression remained calm as she said, “You should have seen the divorce papers. When are you free so we can get it finalized?”
“I haven’t agreed to a divorce, Chi Muchen! Come home with me!”
As he spoke, Huo Yunting reached for her, but Shi Yiheng, who had snapped back to his senses, stepped in front of Chi Muchen.
Huo Yunting’s gaze turned glacial as he stared at Shi Yiheng. “Get out of the way if you don’t want to be blacklisted,” he said, his voice dripping with ice.
Shi Yiheng met his gaze without flinching, his eyes defiant.
“Mr. Huo, blacklisting me won’t be that easy. Besides, it doesn’t seem like Muchen wants to go with you.”
He had built up a considerable network in the entertainment industry over the years; Huo Yunting couldn’t just have him shelved with a single word.
A cold glint appeared in Huo Yunting’s eyes. He pulled out his phone and made a call.
Just then, Chi Muchen spoke from behind Shi Yiheng. “Huo Yunting, don’t drag innocent people into this. Let’s talk.”
Huo Yunting lowered his phone, but the rage inside him only flared hotter. “Defending him already?!” he snarled. “I’m gone from Rongcheng for one month, and you start keeping a man? You’ve really outdone yourself!”
Chi Muchen ignored him, turning to Shi Yiheng. “You should go inside.”
Shi Yiheng’s gaze was laced with concern, but they were husband and wife, and he had no right to interfere.
“Okay. Call my name if you need anything.”
After Shi Yiheng left, Chi Muchen turned back to Huo Yunting. Before she could speak, he grabbed her arm and dragged her outside.
“What are you doing?!”
Chi Muchen was seething. The bastard. They were on the verge of divorce, and he still acted like such a brute. How could she have been so blind to insist on marrying him?!
Huo Yunting’s face was a stone mask. He said nothing as he shoved Chi Muchen into the car, got in on the other side, and started the engine.
He drove with terrifying speed, and in the blink of an eye, they were halfway up the mountain. Chi Muchen gritted her teeth and glared at him.
“Let me out! Huo Yunting, what’s the point of this?!”
“Seatbelt!”
His hands clenched the steering wheel, the veins bulging on his skin—a clear sign of the fury raging within him.
Chi Muchen didn’t move. Her expression was distant as she met his gaze. “Huo Yunting, when I said I wanted a divorce, I wasn’t throwing a tantrum or being unreasonable. I was serious.”
Screech—
The black Maybach slammed to a halt on the side of the road. The inertia sent Chi Muchen’s head crashing into the windshield.
A sharp pain shot through her, and she sucked in a breath, her brow tightly furrowed.
Before she could recover, she heard Huo Yunting’s cold laugh.
“Divorce me so you can be with that pretty boy? I’d forget about that if I were you.”
Clutching her forehead, Chi Muchen felt a surge of anger. “Are you insane, Huo Yunting? You’re in love with Chi Xuan, and I stepped aside for you. What more could you possibly want?”
His expression was frigid. “What does Chi Xuan have to do with this?”
A mocking smile touched her lips. “How could she not? Dare you say she isn’t the one you have in your heart?!”
Silence fell between them after her words, thick and heavy.
After a long moment, Huo Yunting finally spoke, his voice as cold as his eyes. “What right do you have to accuse me? At least I would never betray you. You, on the other hand, spend the night in another man’s villa instead of coming home.”
“What do you mean, ‘betray you’? Do I have to catch you in bed with her for it to count?!”
“Chi Muchen!”
Seeing the fury on his face, a sudden calm descended upon her. She looked away. “Say what you will. This divorce is happening.”
“And what if I refuse?”
A wave of irritation washed over her, a flash of cold impatience in her eyes. She didn't want to exchange another word with him.
Sensing the shift in her attitude, Huo Yunting’s brow tightened. He was about to speak when his phone suddenly rang.
He saw it was Chi Xuan. After a glance at Chi Muchen, he answered.
“Xuanxuan, what’s wrong?”
“Yunting, the power’s out at the villa, and I’m so scared… Can you come over…?”
Chi Xuan’s voice was choked with tears, trembling faintly.
She’d been terrified of the dark since she was a child, unable to even walk down dimly lit streets and always sleeping with a light on. He could only imagine how frightened she was, all alone in a blacked-out villa.
“Don’t be scared, I’m on my way. You’ll be fine.”
When he hung up, he found Chi Muchen watching him with a mocking expression. Uncharacteristically, he offered an explanation. “The power’s out at the villa. I’m going to check on Xuanxuan. You can call a cab.”
After a few seconds of silence, he added, “As for the divorce, you should give up on that idea. I won’t agree to it.”
Chi Muchen’s face was impassive. She enunciated each word clearly, “Whether you agree or not, Huo Yunting, is completely irrelevant to me. I don’t love you anymore. So, this divorce is happening.”
