Chapter 13: Kneel and Apologize
Author: Clarissa Dove
Oct 27, 2025
Rong Shu found it strange. Fu Jingting was a man of considerable talent, and the Fu family was nothing short of a dynasty. So why did his mother, Wang Shuqin, behave like some crude shrew from the countryside? A wry smile touched her lips. “Let me get one thing straight. Your son and I are divorced. And I didn't take a single cent from your family.” “Bullshit!” Wang Shuqin spat, her face a mask of stubborn fury that made it clear she wasn't letting this go. “You broke bitch, where would you get the money for a high-end place like this? It had to be my son’s! I’m telling you, Rong Shu, even if you get on your knees and beg me right now, I won’t forgive you!” Kneel and beg? The sheer absurdity of it almost made Rong Shu laugh. There had always been something wrong with this woman. She wasn't worth wasting time on. Rong Shu turned to leave. But Wang Shuqin, now in a frenzy, wasn't about to let her go. “Trying to run, are you?” Wang Shuqin lunged, her hand reaching for the hair at the back of Rong Shu's head. But Lu Qi, who had been expecting it, shoved Wang Shuqin hard, pulling Rong Shu safely behind him. He’d put some force into the push, and Wang Shuqin lost her balance, stumbling backward and sprawling flat on her face. “Oh, God, help me!” She looked up and met Lu Qi’s disgusted gaze, then plopped right down on the floor and started wailing. “Is there no justice in this world! I’m an old woman, and this young punk just hit me! I don’t want to live anymore—” A crowd was gathering, and soon the commotion drew the general manager of the establishment. Wang Shuqin immediately pointed a trembling finger at Lu Qi, pleading her case to the manager. “It was him! This little bastard hit me! Oh, my back… It’s killing me…” She was a VIP client who had spent a considerable amount of money there, so Manager Zhao was naturally inclined to side with her. His expression was stern as he scanned Rong Shu’s group, but when his gaze landed on Li Chuan, his eyes widened in shock. “Mas—” Li Chuan cut him off before he could finish. “She’s lying. Pull up the security footage if you don’t believe me.” Manager Zhao was no fool; he knew how to read a room. His demeanor shifted in an instant. He offered an obsequious smile, bowing slightly. “Yes, yes, of course. I’ll go get the footage right away.” This sudden change in attitude only deepened Rong Shu’s curiosity about Li Chuan. Was he really just a scholarship student from some poor mountain village? When Manager Zhao returned, his allegiance had clearly shifted. He looked at Wang Shuqin with exasperation. “Ma’am, I suggest you leave now. Before the police get here.” Wang Shuqin froze. “The police?” “The footage clearly shows you made the first move,” Manager Zhao accused, his tone sharp. “So how can you claim he hit you? If you keep this up, the police will have to get involved, and when they see the video, you could be charged with filing a false report.” Wang Shuqin couldn’t believe it. “On what grounds!” Seeing she was still trying to argue, Lu Qi snorted in derision. “How can someone your age be so shameless? My girl was tormented by you in your own house, and now that she’s finally divorced your scumbag son, you still won’t leave her alone? Don’t think I won’t hit you just because you’re an old woman. Push me too far, and I’ll put you down myself, you old crow!” Stunned into silence by Lu Qi's outburst, Wang Shuqin gritted her teeth. She had no choice but to leave, her face twisted with resentment. Lu Qi scoffed. “Pathetic old bully. It takes a villain to handle a villain.” His phone suddenly rang. After he answered, whatever was said on the other end made him instinctively glance at Rong Shu. She raised an eyebrow. “The way you’re looking at me… this is about me, isn’t it?” “A friend of mine just told me. He saw Assistant Zhang looking for the roadside surveillance footage of Gu Manyin's car accident from six years ago!” At his words, Rong Shu’s expression turned to ice. Seeing the change in her, Li Chuan turned to Lu Qi. “What footage?” Lu Qi’s voice was laced with unconcealed anger. “It’s about that viper, Gu Manyin. When she woke up and found out my girl had married Fu Jingting, she was consumed by jealousy. That vindictive woman twisted the truth and insisted that it was Rong Shu who, out of jealousy, ran her off the road. And Fu Jingting, for all his intelligence, couldn’t see it was a lie? It’s unbelievable.” Li Chuan’s brow furrowed in thought. “Setting aside the fact that the video file might not even exist after all this time, even if Fu Jingting gets lucky and finds it, what’s the use?” “You’re right.” Lu Qi’s expression shifted again. “That black-hearted bitch was able to fabricate such a baseless lie. What’s to stop her from faking a video to frame you?” A smile touched Rong Shu’s lips, but it didn't reach her eyes. “I had intended to let things be. We were divorced. I’d stay out of his way, and he’d stay out of mine. It seems I was too naive. Some people just won’t let me be.” Gu Yaotian was connected to her father's wrongful conviction, and now his daughter wakes up and accuses her of attempted murder. Like father, like daughter. Did they really think she was a pushover? A genuine, chilling smile finally bloomed on Rong Shu's face. “If Gu Manyin behaves herself, I won’t do a thing. But if she tries to harm me, I’ll make her understand that I am not to be trifled with.”
