After dinner, Yan Anxing didn't waste any time. "Yan Luo," he began, "you're of university age now. I've already arranged for your enrollment at Kaitisi. You'll start classes with Shu Ran tomorrow."
Yan Luo didn't object. After all, her main reason for coming to City A was to get into Kaitisi. It was Su Yuan, beside her, who protested. "Luo Luo just got back. What's the hurry?"
"She's been out of school for three years. She needs to get back to her studies immediately. Otherwise, a daughter of the Yan family without even a diploma? It would be a disgrace."
The three Yan sons were all pillars of society, remarkably successful. Even Yan Shu Ran was widely praised. But then there was Yan Luo. To Yan Anxing, she was simply an embarrassment.
"But we should at least hold a party to announce Luo Luo's real identity."
At these words, Yan Shu Ran's brow twitched. Announce her identity? That meant everyone would know she wasn't their biological daughter.
Yan Anxing's face darkened instantly. "Absolutely not. The world knows Shu Ran as our daughter. If we announce this, what happens to her? She's a huge star now. What would people think?"
Though only a freshman, Yan Shu Ran was already a celebrated singer and had won countless piano and violin competitions. The contrast only intensified Yan Anxing's disdain for Yan Luo.
"Then what about our Luo Luo?"
"We'll say she's the one we adopted!" Yan Anxing's voice was grim.
"Yan Anxing, you..." Su Yuan couldn't believe her husband could say such a thing.
Yan Shu Ran, on the other hand, breathed an inward sigh of relief. Thank goodness her father was on her side. Still, she interjected, feigning sincerity, "Dad, Mom, my sister is your biological daughter. It's only right that her identity be announced."
"No!" Yan Anxing refused flatly.
Yan Luo watched the scene unfold in silence. A humorless laugh escaped her lips as she spoke, her voice laced with indifference. "There's no need to announce that I'm the eldest daughter of the Yan family. Let's just leave it. I'm tired. I'd like to go to my room."
The title of 'Eldest Daughter of the Yan Family' meant nothing to her.
Su Yuan looked like she wanted to say more, but in the end, she just sighed. "Alright."
At the bedroom door, Su Yuan looked at her daughter, her heart aching. "Luo Luo, I'm so sorry. I promise, we won't let you be treated unfairly in this house. Rest well tonight. I decorated the room myself. If there's anything you don't like or anything you need, please tell me."
Yan Luo nodded. She hesitated a moment before speaking. "Okay. Thank you, Mom."
It was clear that Su Yuan's affection for her was genuine.
It took Su Yuan a second for the word to sink in. *Did Luo Luo just call me Mom?*
Her eyes welled with tears. She stroked Yan Luo's hair and said softly, "My dear girl."
Then, as if remembering something, Su Yuan hesitated before continuing. "By the way, Luo Luo, our family and the Fu family have been friends for generations. Your Grandpa Fu was very fond of you when you were little, so he and your grandfather arranged a marriage for you with his grandson, Fu Xiangchen..."
Besides the Yan family, only the Fu family knew that Yan Shu Ran was not their biological child.
"An arranged marriage?" Yan Luo's brow furrowed slightly.
"Yes. You used to adore Xiangchen, always chasing after him. You even gave him the crystal necklace your grandfather gave you." Fearing she had upset her, Su Yuan quickly added, "But if you don't want to get married, that's fine. I'll explain things to the Fu family."
Yan Luo certainly didn't want to get married. Men would only get in the way of her making money. So she nodded.
