After their conversation, Yan Luo entered her room. It was beautifully decorated, every detail thoughtfully arranged, and for the first time, she felt a warmth she recognized as kinship.
Just then, her phone buzzed in her bag. The caller ID showed Xu Ye, her boss's younger brother.
Yan Luo answered.
“Luo-jie! You're in A City, right? We're short a mid-laner for a match tonight. You gotta help us out!”
Her refusal was blunt. “Not interested.”
“No, no, please, Luo-jie! I’m begging you! This is a grudge match! It’s about pride! I’ll give you five million if we win.”
“Not going.”
“Ten million.”
“I’m tired. I'm going to bed.”
“Wait, Luo-jie! My brother sent you here to protect me, didn't he? If I lose this match, I'm as good as dead! You wouldn’t want to see your boss's only brother get wiped out, would you?”
Yan Luo fell silent.
The kid’s learned how to threaten me.
“Please, Luo-jie! Twenty million if we win!”
“Fine. Send me the address.”
Yan Luo sighed. The Yan family was likely asleep by now, and Su Yuan would surely worry if she just walked out. After a moment’s thought, she decided to slip out over the balcony.
On the adjacent balcony, Yan Shuran witnessed the entire scene, a slow smirk spreading across her lips. *Yan Luo,* she thought, *caught red-handed on your very first day. You're finished.*
…
Nightfall Club was one of A City’s premier entertainment complexes, a sprawling venue that housed an internet cafe, a bar, and private lounges. When Yan Luo's taxi pulled up, two groups were already locked in a heated argument.
“Xu Ye, where's your mid-laner? Are they even showing up? Or did they chicken out?”
“Why don't you just forfeit and call us daddy?”
Xu Ye shot back, his face flushed with anger, “Shut it, Yan Ze! We'll see who’s losing soon enough!”
The students were all from Kaitis Academy, where Xu Ye and Yan Ze led rival factions. They were notorious arch-enemies at school, and today's match was the culmination of their feud: the loser had to call the winner "daddy."
As Yan Luo stepped inside, a hush fell over the room, all eyes drawn to her. A few jaws literally dropped. Damn, was she even real?
“Hey, little lady, you looking for someone?”
But Xu Ye scrambled forward as if he'd just seen a divine apparition. “Luo-jie!”
A wave of disappointment washed over Yan Ze’s crew; she was with Xu Ye. But their disappointment quickly turned to shock at Xu Ye’s next words.
“Alright, our mid-laner's here,” he announced. “Let’s get this started.”
Everyone stared, bewildered. When did their mid-laner get here? That girl… she’s the mid-laner?
Yan Ze scoffed, his voice dripping with scorn. “Seriously, Xu Ye? You brought a girl to play mid against me? Are you underestimating me, or just insulting me?”
Yan Luo merely cast a cool, dangerous glance at Yan Ze. Xu Ye grinned. He knew someone was about to get wrecked.
They were playing League of Legends, a 5v5 team battle game.
Once they entered the champion select screen, Yan Luo immediately locked in a hero with a high skill ceiling.
Yan Ze’s team felt a surge of confidence; this was an easy win. In contrast, a sense of doom settled over Xu Ye’s friends. The girl Xu Ye brought was stunning, sure, but she didn't exactly scream "pro gamer."
Then the match began, and what unfolded on screen left them speechless.
One minute in, Yan Luo scored first blood, deleting Yan Ze from the lane. From there, she single-handedly carried the team, dominating so hard it felt like a 1v5. A game that should have lasted over twenty minutes was over in just fifteen.
Yan Ze had been utterly demolished in the mid-lane. He couldn't believe he'd been beaten, and by a girl no less. But Yan Luo’s mechanics were simply on another level—they were flawless.
Xu Ye dropped his mouse, a triumphant grin spreading across his face. “Luo-jie, you’re a freaking legend! Alright, Yan Ze, time to pay up. Call me daddy!”
Hearing the name, Yan Luo raised an eyebrow. *His surname is Yan, too?*
Surely it's just a coincidence…
